Lismore City Council has approved the continuation of its outdoor dining fee waiver for the 2026–27 financial year, extending support for local businesses and ongoing efforts to revitalise the Lismore CBD.
Mayor Steve Krieg said eligible businesses would continue to benefit from waived outdoor dining fees for another year, helping to reduce operating costs while encouraging greater use of public spaces and a more vibrant city centre.
“Outdoor dining is an important feature of the CBD, contributing significantly to the atmosphere, amenity and economic activity of our city centre while helping to create a welcoming and lively street life for residents and visitors,” Krieg said.
“By continuing this fee waiver, Council is providing practical support to local businesses while helping to create an attractive and active CBD where people want to spend time, meet friends and support local businesses.”
Krieg said the extension recognised the importance of maintaining momentum in the city’s recovery and revitalisation.
“Our businesses have shown remarkable resilience, and Council remains committed to supporting initiatives that encourage economic growth and community activity in the heart of our city,” he said.
Council said it would continue working with businesses to ensure outdoor trading areas on public land and footpaths remain accessible and comply with relevant standards. Outdoor dining fees will also be reviewed during the 2026–27 financial year to help determine future arrangements.
The review will consider the benefits of outdoor dining, the needs of local businesses and the role it plays in activating the CBD, with the aim of ensuring future arrangements continue to support a thriving city centre.
