Man charged over alleged break-ins, thefts and firearm offences in Tweed Heads

A man has faced court after being charged over a series of alleged commercial break-ins and firearm offences following a police search in the Tweed Heads area.

The Tweed/Byron Proactive Crime Team began investigating in June after a series of alleged break-ins at a commercial property in Tweed Heads South and a clubhouse in Tweed Heads West. Police also investigated alleged firearm offences in northern New South Wales and Queensland.

Officers executed a search warrant at a unit on Bailey Street, Tweed Heads West, about 11:30 am on Thursday.

Police allege they seized stolen property, including football jerseys, two loaded firearms, ammunition and other items believed to be the proceeds of crime linked to offences across the Tweed/Byron district.

A 34-year-old man was arrested at the property and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station.

He was charged with:

  • three counts of break, enter and steal;
  • two counts of possess unauthorised prohibited firearm;
  • possess ammunition without a permit;
  • two counts of not keep firearm safely – prohibited firearm;
  • two counts of possess unregistered firearm – not pistol; and
  • goods in custody.

The man was refused bail and was due to appear before the Bail Division Court on Friday.

Police investigations are continuing.
