Funds donated by travellers at the Lions Road collection box are continuing to support community projects across the Kyogle local government area.
Kyogle Council has accepted a substantial donation from the Kyogle Lions Club, which manages the long-running roadside collection. Mayor Danielle Mulholland accepted the cheque on behalf of Council and thanked the club’s volunteers and the many visitors who have contributed over the years.
“This is a wonderful example of what makes our community so special,” Mulholland said. “Every coin and every note placed in the Lions Road donation box reflects the generosity of people who appreciate this remarkable scenic drive and want to help ensure the surrounding community continues to thrive.”
“The funds don’t simply appear – they are the result of countless volunteers who maintain the donation box, collect the donations and dedicate their time to serving our community. The Kyogle Lions Club deserves enormous credit for turning the generosity of travellers into tangible benefits for local people.”
The Lions Road is one of the region’s most popular scenic touring routes, attracting thousands of visitors each year through the Border Ranges and into the Kyogle region. Many choose to support the local community by making a donation, knowing the money will remain in the area.
Mulholland said partnerships between community organisations and local government helped deliver projects that improved residents’ quality of life.
“Volunteers are the backbone of rural communities. When organisations like the Kyogle Lions Club and Council work together, we can achieve outcomes that benefit everyone.”
