Six people have been charged during a high-visibility police operation targeting crime and anti-social behaviour in Taree.
Officers from Manning Great Lakes Police District, assisted by Traffic and Highway Patrol Command and the Dog Unit, saturated the Taree area on Thursday under Operation Supress.
The operation targeted crime and anti-social behaviour, including bicycle-related offences.
Police arrested and charged six people with offences relating to family and domestic violence, traffic matters, knives and breaches of bail.
Officers also issued seven infringement notices to cyclists for allegedly failing to wear helmets and one infringement notice for allegedly using a mobile phone while riding a bicycle.
Seven young people were also issued warnings for failing to wear helmets.
About 12.40pm, police attended a home on Marjorie Street, Taree, as part of a warrant inquiry.
While officers were speaking with an occupant, a 30-year-old man allegedly ran from the house through a rear door.
Police pursued the man on foot before arresting him nearby.
He was taken to Taree Police Station, where four outstanding warrants were executed. He was also charged with driving while never licensed, having a prior offence.
The man was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 1 on Friday.
About 3pm, police stopped a 27-year-old man who was allegedly acting suspiciously at a shopping centre on Manning Street, Taree.
Police searched the man and allegedly found and seized a knife and items of clothing with tags still attached.
He was arrested and taken to Taree Police Station, where he was charged with custody of a knife in a public place, having goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen and breaching bail.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 1 on Friday.
Police say further operations are expected in the future.
