Clarence Valley residents, businesses and schools are being asked to have their say on proposed local part-day public holidays for 2027 and 2028.
Clarence Valley Council has received applications from local event organisers seeking public holiday declarations for major events in Grafton and Maclean.
Council considers applications every two years before endorsed proposals are forwarded to the NSW Government for determination under the Public Holidays Act 2010.
The proposed Grafton dates are:
- Ramornie Handicap — 14 July 2027 and 12 July 2028
- Grafton Cup — 15 July 2027 and 13 July 2028
- Grafton Jacaranda Festival — 28 October 2027 and 26 October 2028
The proposed Maclean dates are:
- Maclean Show — 14 April 2027 and 3 May 2028
- Maclean Cane Harvest Festival — 11 June 2027 and 9 June 2028
Council is seeking feedback from the community, businesses and schools to gauge support for the proposed dates and assess their potential economic benefits.
Local public holidays would apply only within defined areas associated with each event, rather than across the entire Clarence Valley.
Following consultation, a report will be presented to Council’s October ordinary meeting for consideration.
Council’s endorsed applications, along with feedback received during consultation, will then be forwarded to the NSW Government for a final decision.
Submissions close Monday, 28 September.
