Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions at multiple locations on the Gwydir Highway between Grafton and Glen Innes to allow for slope stabilisation and pavement improvement works aimed at reducing the impact of future weather events.
Work will start on Monday, 23 February 2026, and is expected to be completed by the end of September 2026, weather permitting.
Construction hours will be 7am to 6pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, if required. There will be no work on Sundays or public holidays.
Single-lane, alternating traffic arrangements will be in place during work hours, with reduced speed limits to ensure the safety of workers and road users.
Some sections of the highway will have 24-hour traffic control in place. Oversize and/or overmass (OSOM) vehicles wider than 3.2 metres must contact the project team on 0409 082 166 at least 72 hours before travelling through the work sites, as concrete barriers will be installed.
Motorists should allow up to 20 minutes of additional travel time, follow signage and traffic control directions, and drive to the conditions.
