Big day out for Ballina families as Our Kids fundraiser returns

Ballina families are set for a full day of free entertainment this weekend, with the annual Our Kids Day Out returning to the Missingham Bridge Amphitheatre on Sunday.

The event, which raises funds for paediatric equipment at hospitals across the Northern Rivers, will run from 9am to 2pm and feature a packed program of live shows, activities and community displays.

Organisers say this year’s Clarence Property Our Kids Day Out will include appearances from SpongeBob SquarePants and Big Dog, alongside magic shows, music and interactive performances for children of all ages.

A major highlight of the day will be the presentation of the Suzie Levot Memorial Our Kids Bravery Award, recognising the courage of young patients receiving care at Lismore Base Hospital.

This year’s recipient is two-year-old Charlotte White from Kyogle, who has faced a serious and ongoing health journey since being diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis at just 18 months old.

Charlotte has required multiple hospital visits since her diagnosis, with her family becoming regulars at the Children’s Ward.

Her mother, Larissa Scarlett, said the support from staff had been invaluable.

“The kids ward staff have been incredible, so supportive to us all,” she said.

Event organisers say Charlotte’s story highlights the importance of early intervention and the role of regional paediatric services in supporting families through difficult circumstances.

Our Kids Fundraising Coordinator Rebekka Battista said the event was about bringing the community together while supporting a vital cause.

“The Clarence Property Our Kids Day Out is a fantastic opportunity for families to enjoy free entertainment and connect with emergency services, all while raising funds for sick children,” she said.

“So, bring your family, pack a picnic blanket, and enjoy a day full of fun.”

Emergency services will be on site throughout the day, with trucks, cars and boats on display, giving children the chance to explore and learn more about the people who keep the community safe.

There will also be a range of activities including a Ballina Lions breakfast barbecue from 9am, live performances on the main stage, and opportunities to meet hospital staff and local service providers.

Key performances include SpongeBob SquarePants shows at 10am and 12.15pm, as well as appearances by the Wildlife Twins, Little Miss Cherry, The Blaze Magic Show and DJ Gooy.

The free, family-friendly event is supported by a range of local sponsors and businesses and continues to be a major fundraiser for Our Kids, helping to deliver essential equipment for children’s healthcare across the region.
