MasterChef Australia favourite Simon Toohey will head to Byron Bay this winter to host a unique retreat focused on plant-based food, sustainability and wellbeing.

The three-day “Nourish Your Soul” retreat will be held from July 24 to 26 at Byron Yoga Centre, bringing together cooking workshops, yoga, meditation and farm-to-plate experiences in an immersive wellness setting.

Toohey, who rose to national prominence through his appearances on MasterChef Australia, has become one of the country’s leading advocates for sustainable food systems and plant-based cooking. During the retreat, guests will have the opportunity to learn directly from the chef through hands-on workshops designed to showcase how simple, nourishing meals can be both environmentally sustainable and flavour-packed.

The retreat will also feature daily yoga and meditation sessions, garden tours and meals prepared using seasonal produce grown onsite at Byron Yoga Centre’s organic gardens.

Byron Yoga Centre founder John Ogilvie said the partnership was a natural fit.

“Simon and Byron Yoga Centre share a deep commitment to sustainability, wholesome living and mindful practices,” Mr Ogilvie said.

“This retreat brings those values together in a really practical and enjoyable way – through food, movement and time to reconnect with yourself.”

Guests will enjoy collaborative meals created by Toohey and the centre’s kitchen team, with an emphasis on fresh, locally grown ingredients and conscious eating.

Toohey said the retreat was about much more than food.

“For me, food is one of the most powerful ways we can care for ourselves, each other and the planet,” he said.

“Bringing people together to cook, eat and slow down in a place like Byron is something really special.”

Organisers say the retreat is designed to be an intimate experience, giving participants the chance to step away from daily routines and focus on personal wellbeing while learning practical skills they can take home.

Retreat highlights include plant-based cooking workshops with Toohey, seasonal garden-to-plate meals, daily yoga and meditation, guided garden tours, massage treatments and access to the centre’s facilities, including a 20-metre solar-heated mineral salt pool rich in magnesium.
