Kyogle Council is strengthening its advocacy efforts to secure State and Federal Government funding for infrastructure projects identified as priorities by the local community.
To support the campaign, Council has prepared a series of advocacy briefs seeking investment in several major projects, including:
- Sealing 15 kilometres of unsealed roads each year, particularly school bus routes;
- Replacing all causeways with bridges or box culverts;
- Completing the upgrade of the Clarence Way between Sandilands and Urbenville;
- Delivering stages 2 and 3 of the Kyogle Memorial Recreation Centre; and
- Developing mountain bike trails and supporting infrastructure.
Council is also calling on the NSW Government to permanently exempt Kyogle from the waste levy and provide funding to maintain public access to Bells Bay at Toonumbar Dam.
Kyogle Council Mayor Danielle Mulholland said the priorities reflected issues consistently raised by residents.
“These priorities have been shaped by the community and what they have told us, time and time again, matter most to them – better roads, improved local facilities and increased resilience to natural disasters such as floods and fires,” Mulholland said.
“We are taking that message directly to decision-makers and working hard to secure the funding needed to deliver for our residents.”
The advocacy briefs detail community concerns and the effects of infrastructure funding shortfalls on the region, while also highlighting Council’s record of successfully delivering major projects with government support.
Mulholland said Council would continue to advocate strongly on behalf of local residents.
“We might be a small rural council, but we are not shy about taking our community’s case to the State and Federal governments,” she said.
“We have listened to our community and we know what they need, we have strong projects ready to go, and we have consistently demonstrated that we can deliver major infrastructure when the funding is secured.”
Council said the campaign aims to ensure the region’s priorities remain firmly on the agenda of government decision-makers and funding bodies.
