Lismore’s Build-to-Rent housing project has reached a major construction milestone, bringing 50 new long-term rental apartments closer to completion in East Lismore.
Landcom has completed the topping out of the development at Crawford and Military roads, with major construction works expected to finish by late 2026.
Final works are expected to be completed in early 2027, weather permitting.
The project, being delivered by NSW Government developer Landcom, is the first of its kind in Lismore.
Of the 50 apartments, 20 per cent will be reserved as affordable rental housing for people on low-to-moderate incomes.
The development will include studio, one, two and three-bedroom apartments, with the homes built above the flood zone.
The site is close to shops, schools, Southern Cross University and parklands.
Landcom will retain ownership of the properties, with a dedicated operator expected to be appointed by the end of the year to manage the homes.
The development sits next to NSW Reconstruction Authority land at Crawford Road, which Landcom will also redevelop as part of plans to deliver more than 500 additional homes in East Lismore.
Landcom is delivering housing projects across Greater Sydney and regional NSW, including the Northern Rivers, South Coast and Central West.
The NSW Government says its planning reforms and surplus land audit have increased the state’s housing pipeline, with more than 80,000 homes under construction.
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said the latest milestone brought the project closer to welcoming its first tenants.
“This is an important milestone for Lismore and means we’re just around the corner from seeing renters move into their new homes.” said Scully.
“This is a great example of the Minns Labor Government using new and innovative approaches to deliver more homes for the people of NSW, whether you’re in our cities or regional areas like Lismore.”
Minister for Recovery, Minister for the North Coast and Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin said secure, long-term housing remained important as the city continued its recovery.
“Long-term security remain critical challenges for Lismore as we continue our rebuild. Reaching this milestone brings 50 beautifully designed, flood free apartments another step closer for our community.” said Saffin.
“By offering a mix of studio to three-bedroom units built safely above the flood zone, this project delivers the diverse housing options local single and small-household renters urgently need.
“Despite the weather challenges along the way, the Landcom team and local contractors have done an amazing job getting us to this stage and I am happy to say so.
“I look forward to seeing our first residents move into their new homes.”
Landcom CEO Alexander Wendler said the development represented an important project for the region.
