Teen and woman charged after alleged break-in at Taree’s Andy’s Kake Kitchen

A teenage boy will face court next month, and a 54-year-old woman has been charged with drug supply, after an alleged break-in at a well-known Taree bakery led police to a house full of stolen goods and methamphetamine.

About 1.30am on Tuesday 11 August, a group of people allegedly forced entry to Andy’s Kake Kitchen on Milligan Street, Taree, known locally for its special occasion cakes as well as fresh bread, pies and coffee. During the incident, the group allegedly stole a quantity of cash, food and drink items.

The bakery was unable to open at its usual 6am, losing much of its morning trade while owners cleaned up and allowed police to do their job.

It is sadly not the first time the store has been targeted, with a large rock thrown through the front window of the modest store in January 2023.

Officers attached to Manning/Great Lakes Police District attended a short time later and began inquiries into the incident. Following extensive investigation, police executed a search warrant at a Taree home, where they allegedly located and seized several items of interest relating to the break-in.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested and taken to Taree Police Station, where he was charged with aggravated break and enter dwelling in company, steal less than or equal to $60,000. He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children’s court on Thursday 10 September.

During the same search, police also allegedly located and seized 7.06 grams of methamphetamine, digital scales and clear resealable bags.

A 54-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Taree Police Station, where she was charged with possessing a prohibited drug and supplying a prohibited drug, greater than indictable and less than commercial quantity.

She was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Taree Local Court on Tuesday 22 September.

Inquiries into the break-in are continuing.
