A young woman remains in a critical condition after she was allegedly struck by a vehicle driven by a teenage boy near Coffs Harbour overnight.
Emergency services were called to James Street in Glenreagh, north-west of Coffs Harbour, shortly before midnight on Saturday following reports of a crash involving a pedestrian.
Officers from the Coffs/Clarence Police District arrived to find a 21-year-old woman with serious head injuries after she was allegedly hit by an SUV that then left the scene.
Paramedics from NSW Ambulance treated the woman at the scene before transporting her to hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.
Police established a crime scene and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested on James Street about 11.30am on Sunday and taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station.
He has since been charged with five offences, including failing to stop and assist after a vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving, driving as a learner without a supervising driver, and failing to provide particulars to police.
The teen was refused bail and is due to appear before a children’s court on Monday.
Investigations are ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information, dashcam, CCTV or mobile phone footage related to the incident to come forward.
